"Yuwipi" - in JAAR

The word Yuwipi refers to a healing and curing ritual, as well to as the ritual specialist, the “Yuwipi man,” among the Lakota (Sioux). My new article, "Yuwipi: A Postcolonial Approach to Lakota Ritual Specialization and Religious Revitalization," published in the Journal of the American Academy of Religion, takes a critical look at how Yuwipi has been understood within Western academic, anthropological, and religious frameworks.
